When we did the Bibbulmun Track back in 2011, it was our first multi-month hike, and we didn't spend any time thinking about boot wear during the hike. We just took our current boots, which were more than okay, and just expected the best.
Just after halfway through I remember noticing that my boots were not as water-proof as they should be and began spending a lot of my walking time analysing the how, where and why my feet were getting wet. The penny finally dropped that the soles were failing, though it didn't really afect us finishing the hike.
So, it was last week when I noticed my hiking shoes were worn (not that I'll be taking them on the hike), which reminded me about my boots, which got me thinking about the stony and rocky terrain we'll be walking over… which propelled us into Paddy Palin (for mine) and Mont (for Sandi's). We both have nice, new, boots for the hike that will definitely see the end of the ~1,200kms.
