We distributed the first line of a limerick to each table:

  • There once was a boy who liked to play hockey
  • There was a trombone that was rarely used
  • There was a boy born in a van
  • Once Nat went to University
  • There once was a boy called Nat
  • There was a young man from Blue Mountains
  • There was a young man with much money
  • There was a young man who loved singing
  • There once was a boy on a bike
  • There was a boy going to school
Each team got a different first line and wrote their limericks on the table cloths, there was a time limit and most teams wrote a couple and only read out their best ones. Clues were awarded for each team that read a limerick. If you want to add your own limerick you do so here!

Table One

There was a young man who loved singing
Who had a girl friend who loved blinging
She went down town
And all had a frown
That resulted in the Police a'ringing.

There was a young man who loved singing
He also loved downing and swinging
He made such a racket
His friends couldn't hack it
They left with their ears a'ringing.

There was a trombone that was rarely used
The trombonists were less than amused
For he'd taken such a liking
To long walks and hiking.

There was a trombone that was rarely used
Which caused its owner to be not amused
He did take it out
and play it round-about
Which ended in his freedom being refused.

Table Two

There was a boy born in a van
Who thought he'd grow into a man
He found as he grew taller
His world seemed to grow smaller.

There was a young man with much money
Who thought he was the Easter Bunny
One day on a hop
He dropped out a big plop
And wished he'd been on the dunny.

There was a young man with much money
Who loved singing songs on the dunny
One day while in action
He felt much satisfaction
That his deposits had not been so runny.

There was a boy born in a van
Who had a thing for his dam
He took her to dinner
And was a sure winner
While holding the little hand-cam.

Table Three

There once was a boy called Nat
Who thought he'd look cool with a tat
But he couldn't decide
Which part of his hide
So he designed one especially for that.

Once Nat went to University
To learn about the world's diversity
He strayed to the bar
and didn't move far
Graduating in honours in perversity.

Table Four

There once was a boy on a bike
Who thought he might go on a hike
He peddled away
Came back in a day
And went out again on his trike.

There once was a boy who liked to play hockey
After a failed job as an apprentice jockey
He was sacked on account
of the quality of his mount
And now he's washed up and eats nothing but gnocchi.

Table Five

There was a boy going to school
which everyone knows is the rule
One day he was wishing
That he had gone fishing
Anyway he went - the fool.

There once was a lad from Blue Mountains
Who specialised in taking out bad stains
He liked using bleach
With the juice of a peach
And rinsed with water from the fountain.

There was a young man with much money
Who loved singing songs on the dunny
One day while in action
He felt much satisfaction
That his deposits had not been so runny.

There was a boy born in a van
Who had a thing for his dam
He took her to dinner
And was a sure winner
While holding the little hand-cam.
