- Day 48 :: Peaceful Bay to Boat Harbour
- Day 46 :: Giants to Rame Head
Day 47 :: Rame Head to Peaceful Bay
Looking at our intended walk today, it really is 'Round the Ragged Rocks' to Peaceful Bay – but the Track does this: it takes us out to special places. Today's special place is Castle Rock, the summit of Point Irwin, which the Guidebook promises will "provide breathtaking views". Today's menu is also extremely odd: a miscalculation a couple of days ago meant that we're a breakfast short, and we have Isobel's chocolate bars extra for morning tea – then we have lunch and dinner at Peaceful Bay Caravan Park. Not one of those meals was planned!!
Woke to the alarm early after a good night's sleep, which made me wonder if the soft sandy ground added to the comfort of the NeoAir Mattresses? Certainly worked!
Much better sleep, though it was pretty humid and we had the sleeping bags open, worked OK too. The campsite for tents was great, just like a maze, the very dense bushes were like a hedge all growing to same height and the tracks just cut into it. Fabulous. Turned out to be quite a lovely sunrise and a half moon still up. We were up and into it. Beef curry OK for breakfast, quite surprising.
When reading about today's walk last night before bed, it said "Walking at sunrise over the headlands East of Rame Head campsite should start the day with a flourish". We thought that sounded nice, but the awesome sunrise this morning delayed us with 100's of photos until 6:25am. But the sand hills were still beautiful in the grey, hazy dawn.

Boy did we get away in good time, it was great and lovely day for walking, overcast but quite humid once we got going.
It's surprising the number of 4WD tracks in this area, but we have not seen any vehicles. The walking track was quick walking and wended among the coastal ridges ending at a boot cleaning station just before a swampy area.
Saw a kangaroo hop away from us, but no other wildlife. some lovely flowers and some great board walks over some swampy parts.
The Gap Beach was the first sand walking for the day, but you're never really too far from the sand today, as we were to find out.
The Guidebook warned about big waves on these beaches, but the sea was not dangerous today (not even close).
Piece de Resistance was the large boulder we climbed with views up and down the coast, and surf pounding at its base. Very pleasant morning tea up there, eating Isobel's chocolate bars!
Didn't take us long then to choof along the beaches, mostly not too difficult. Maple Syrup bush around today again. Saw a chap, Albany to Kalamunda, who said all the beaches and inlets are OK.
The Track from here into Peaceful Bay crosses two more beaches: Groper Bay Beach and Soft Beach. The sand was quite firm, so the walking was easy.
And almost before we knew it, we'd arrived; Sandi feeling a little hot. First stop was to hit the shop: pay for our night, retrieve our food parcel and shop for lunch and dinner and lunch tomorrow.
The shop was quite adequate – I had an icecream and coffee and Sandi an iced tea when we arrived; coffee was better than I thought I'd get!! Shopped for lunch and dinner and ordered Fish and Chips for 5pm.
For lunch we got bread and sun-dried tomato, olive, ham and cheese that are BBQing as I write (I'm only just controlling myself). Our special lunch tomorrow will be ham and cheese on 'Abbot's village Bakery' bread.
Yes, what a yummy lunch that was! Delicious, and only a BBQ needed. Used camp tool to cut cheese and olives and our knife for buttering. Really doing a spot better here in terms of sorting meals for today and partly perhaps due to not much choice. Will do Fish & Chips so hope they're OK.
We delayed our showers as we thought it'd be better to get our washing done and drying. Unpacking the food parcel is always exciting: just to see what we put in there!
When the washing is dry we'll have showers and get into camp clothes → can't wait!!
Exciting to put something yummy together from odds and ends in a shop!!
Peaceful Bay Caravan Park is lovely with its peppermints, but is another with no extra kitchen facilities – just BBQ and sink – not even any dish washing liquid!! Kitchen area is open – in the modern style.
Today marks the end of our rest period – from Rest Point through to Peaceful Bay – short days and long stops. Today, especially after the early start, we've got a very relaxed day in the sun: charging, washing, showering, airing and drinking lots of tea. Tomorrow we have the first of 3 longish days to get us into the swing of things again.
Fantastic Fish & Chips!! Two pieces of fish each and lots of perfect chips – highly recommended!!
Bought Peaches & Yoghurt for desert.
Really enjoyed the Fish and Chips, good crispy batter and nice moist chips. P enjoyed his chip buttie and then I had mushy peas on bread and butter. Very happy to be able to give leftover bread and butter to a young Asian couple at camp. Very happy to get Camp clothes and all else, but shorts, washed and almost all dried, before the day was gone and the weather packed up in a fairly full on thunder storm. It had been building all afternoon so we had ourselves pretty organised with tent up, bedding and clothes for tomorrow in.
Part of our domestic chores for the day was to air everything, in the normal run of things it's quite difficult to get the sleeping bags aired fully: and it was such a good day for it too with a good breeze. During the afternoon we got everything ready for tomorrow for a quick get-away.
Made up cheese (Colby) and ham sandwiches for tomorrow, which should be nice. Hope so. Camp kitchen here another of these partial covers with BBQs, hot plates, toaster, kettle and sinks. Has power-points but no fridge or microwave.
Well, it was a very strange menu today, but it was all very enjoyable: from curry for breakfast this morning to morning tea & dinner from the take-away section of the Peaceful Bay Shop and our patchwork lunch made from ingredients from the grocery section of the Peaceful Bay Shop.

Weather is blowing in a good deal, but that's not surprising. Very comfy chairs.
Water with flavour that disagreed with tea and coffee. Showers hot and cold with other users; OK flow.
Our current track mates, the three YHA bushwalkers, arrived during the afternoon and we spent the afternoon with them in and around the caravan park. After a very relaxing day and afternoon in the sun, we were a little disappointed that the storm blew in: it will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.
