This actually wasn't on my list to do, but it popped into my mind and I couldn't resist…
When the whole idea for this walk (route, patronage, name, purpose etc) solidified in my mind originally, I went searching for an appropriate graphic to use (because that's what I like to do). There were not many to choose from that had the right aspect, colours, 'feel', but you only need one in the end, and I was very happy with Giovanni Baglione's sketch that was full of fun and just felt like a picture of a family.
I used this graphic from the outset, and there were no plans to change or adapt (after all, there are plenty of other things we need to be doing); I'm not sure where or when the idea popped into my mind, but once there it was something that I couldn't resist.
So with a little bit of tweaking in GIMP and the inclusion of the official Heysen Trail logo, we have our logo for Heysen Trail 2021 :: Return from Egypt. I suppose there are considerable philosophical, theological and other thematic interpretations I could overlay or expound on — but I think all I really wanted was the Holy Family overlaid on the Trail (…at this point I am strongly resisting the urge to wax philosophical about the image, because the more I think about it the more I can see its 'rightness'. Maybe I'll just leave the waxing lyrical for later?).
